Firstly, thank you for helping me! I’m so lucky to have such experienced and enthusiastic friends joining me on this adventure! I could not do this without you, so thank you!
How is the day going to pan out?
Great question! Well... fortunately for all of us, the ever dependable JT has captured exactly how things are going to pan out in this instructional video. Please take a moment to watch it. In fact, study it closely and let me know who you identify with... I am obviously Jonah: a solid 11/10 for effort yet sadly lacking any style or finesse. Oh, and don't forget to learn the moves... we will be recreating the closing scenes in front of the Moot Hall on Saturday night and perhaps other short excerpts will be reenacted at summits along the way...
That pretty much covers everything. See you in Keswick and thank you, again!
In the unlikely event that the video hasn't answered all of your questions, please read on...

Road support
Thank you amazing road support people!
Most of what I need will be in a box which I am hoping to have access to at each road crossing. There'll also be a 5L water bottle which we'll use to refill soft flasks.
Unless otherwise arranged, I suggest pacers be collected from 18 Wordsworth Street, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4BZ, the house we've rented for the weekend of the attempt.
Please use the tracker and any information provided by the pacers in the WhatsApp group to anticipate our arrival time at road crossings. The schedule is a guide only.
The following is for guidance only and is subject to some degree of change... stay alert, people and please work together to ensure pacers make it to road crossings in good time and back to their vehicles afterwards.
Threlkeld
Jasmin and Mike will be providing road support at Threlkeld.
Tim and Phil are making their own way to Threlkeld Cricket Club car park.
Jim will need a lift back to Grasmere.
Dunmail Raise
Pam and Rebecca will be providing road support at Dunmail Raise.
Andrew is making his own way to Dunmail Raise.
Tim will need a lift back to Threlkeld.
Wasdale
Mark will be providing road support at Wasdale.
Alasdair and Mike will need picking up from 18 Wordsworth Street, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4BZ and transporting to Wasdale.
Phil will need a lift back to Threlkeld.
Honister
Pam and Rebecca will be providing road support at Honister.
Sam, Richard and Mark will need picking up from 18 Wordsworth Street, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4BZ and transporting to Honister.
Alasdair and Mike will need a lift back to Keswick. Andrew will need a lift back to Dunmail Raise.
Pacers
Thank you amazing pacers!
On the run!
Please have a fully charged phone with you as I will not.
If you can, please hit the lap button on your watch at summits and if you have phone signal, pop the summit name and time into the WhatsApp group: Skiddaw - 22:24
If you get the urge, feel free to take a photo (or video) of us all. Extra points will be awarded for capturing my slips, falls and obscene outbursts, of which there will be many.
I will be getting most of my calories from my soft flasks, I will also be eating snacks and nibbles which I'll carry myself and so the usual encouragement to drink and eat will be appreciated.
What will you be carrying for me?
- a small dry bag - this must pass from section to section, from pacer to pacer. It will contain: a thermal top, waterproof trousers, map and compass, emergency whistle, emergency blanket, bivvy bag, minimal first aid kit and a spare head torch. Note: the head torch can be dropped off with road support at Dunmail Raise
- road support will hand you up to three full Salomon 500ml soft flasks containing Tailwind and some Tailwind sachets to mix with water collected at stream crossings
Lastly, please make sure you pass soft flasks, Tailwind sachets and anything else you have been carrying to road support when you stand down.
Roster
In line with the strong recommendation of the Bob Graham Club, I'll be mostly running with two pacers on each section except for section 4 and 5...
Section 1
- Michael
- Jim
Section 2
- Tim
- Phil
Section 3
- Phil
- Andrew
Section 4
- Alasdair
- Mike
- Andrew
Section 5
- Richard
- Sam
- Mark
GPX files
Click this link to download a GPX file of the entire route I'll be taking. And the following links are for the individual sections of the route:
These GPX files are the work of Andrew: he has laboured over them to make them what they are today, so thank you, Andrew!
Tracker
Tracking is provided by GB Race Tracker, the tracker link is https://map.racetracker.no/?race=chris_maiden_bob_graham_round
Please note that the tracking point will display an exclamation mark when we're out of signal... so if you see that, don't panic... we're not necessarily having an emergency.
Thank you!
Well, I think that's it for now, folks! If you have any questions, please direct message me on WhatsApp before Friday, 25th August at 18:00, when I'll be going offline.
Beyond that, please help each other to have a great day!
